Japanese Clients and Markets

For 2-1/2 years, I lived in Tokyo, where I wrote lots of copy for Hakuhodo and two smaller agencies as a freelancer. I still work with Japanese clients in the US and in Japan.
A corporate ad for native creative, an up-and-coming agency in Tokyo. It's the story of a banana that makes its way to the end user.

A half-page tofu ad.

Calpis is a Japanese soft drink made from fermented milk cultures.
Dentsu in L.A. asked me to make the taste of Calpis' Calpico fermented-milk drink sound appealing to Americans. Hence "The Softer Sensation" and "Pure & Gentle Flavor." (More work to do?) I've written several corporate brochures and video scripts for Japan Food Corporation and Marukome Foods, among others.

While I'm not fluent in Japanese, I have spent more than 4,000 hours studying it. I can get by in conversations and I can read books and newspapers using a dictionary. I also speak French and Norwegian, and use them professionally.
